The painting robot moves the spray gun around three-dimensional workpieces through six independently controlled axes, giving you access to curved faces, sidewalls, recesses, edges, and multi-angle features that cannot be covered from one fixed direction. Yaskawa servo motion keeps the programmed path repeatable, while the spray system stays coordinated with the arm as orientation and reach change around the part.
Program the Motion Around the Workpiece
Instead of limiting the spray head to a straight or reciprocating path, you can teach the arm how to approach each area of the part. The six-axis structure supports:
- Multi-angle spray-gun positioning around complex geometry
- Independent axis movement for changes in reach and orientation
- Stored processing programs for repeat production
- Handheld programming control close to the robot cell
- Adjustable worktables and fixtures for different part layouts
Once a path has been established, the same motion program can be called again for repeated production, reducing the need to recreate the spray sequence for recurring parts. The control system can store more than 2,600 processing programs for different products and coating routines.
Keep Paint Delivery Coordinated With Robot Motion
A GRACO medium-pressure air-mix spray gun is mounted at the end of the arm and supplied by a GRACO Merkur 30:1 plunger pump. The spray head can change angle as the robot follows the programmed path, allowing coating application to continue across transitions between faces and contours.
The air-mix system combines coating pressure with atomizing air at the gun. Spray settings and motion parameters can be adjusted around the coating, part geometry, and required finish without changing the six-axis mechanical platform.
Run Different Three-Dimensional Parts Through One Cell
Wood, MDF, glass, ceramics, metal, plastic, and other compatible substrates can be processed with UV, PU, PE, NC, AC, water-based, fluorocarbon, adhesive, and other suitable coating systems. For products with different shapes, you can prepare separate motion programs and use a worktable or fixture that holds each part in the required position.
This setup supports recurring production of curved, shaped, and polyhedral components where the spray head must approach the surface from several directions.
Connect Robotic Spraying With the Rest of Production
The cell can operate as a standalone station or connect with other spray painting equipment in a broader automated process. Where loading, spraying, leveling, drying, and handling are arranged in sequence, it can also form part of a complete coating line.
