Challenges Faced by the Client in Hotel Wood Furniture Coating
In Chengdu, Sichuan, China, a renowned furniture manufacturer has long provided hotels and other commercial spaces, as well as high-end villas and other private residences, with a full range of personalized, aesthetically pleasing, and durable furniture products and decorative panels. To overcome production bottlenecks and build a more comprehensive product line to stand out in the market, they decided to adopt an environmentally friendly and efficient automated coating solution. After extensive research, they ultimately chose to partner with Senlian, deploying a fully automatic UV roller coating line integrating soft-touch excimer technology to meet the surface coating needs of solid wood and wood veneer products. Before the production upgrade, they relied on manual brushing or spraying methods, facing the following key challenges:
- The product coating quality is unstable, resulting in a low yield rate: the effect of manual brushing or spraying depends entirely on the operator's skill, proficiency, and working conditions. There are no uniform standards for spraying distance, gun speed, paint film thickness, and brushing pressure, making human error unavoidable. For high-end products such as solid wood and wood veneer, the requirements for substrate texture and surface quality are extremely high. However, manual application easily leads to quality problems such as brush marks, runs, pinholes, orange peel, and uneven paint film thickness. At the same time, different work groups and different batches of products are also very prone to color differences and inconsistent gloss. Even if the same worker applies the coating at different times, the finished product effect will vary, resulting in a product yield rate that has remained at 75%-80% for a long time.
- Low production efficiency and insufficient capacity to meet market order demand: In manual painting processes, the entire process of painting, leveling, and drying a single product is time-consuming, with a slow pace and extremely limited daily capacity. Facing market demand for small-batch, multi-batch, and multi-category customized orders, as well as the surge in furniture bulk orders during peak seasons, manual painting cannot efficiently deliver. This frequently results in order delays and defaults, severely restricting the company's order-taking capacity and making it difficult to support the strategic needs of large-scale development.
- Labor costs continue to rise, and worker stability is poor: Painting operations often involve unpleasant odors, dust, and other health hazards, and the work is physically demanding. Currently, very few young workers are willing to take on spray painting or brushing jobs. The salaries of skilled painting technicians in the industry are increasing year by year, with labor costs maintaining a rigid annual increase of 15%-20%. Companies constantly face difficulties in recruiting and retaining workers, making it extremely difficult to build a professional and stable painting team. If part-time workers are temporarily hired during peak order periods, it will further lower product quality, increase rework rates, and seriously affect the stability of the production system.
Senlian Automatic Coating Solution for Hotel Wood Furniture
Addressing the long-standing challenges our clients face in production efficiency, quality, and labor costs, Senlian designed an automatic coating solution for them. This solution includes a 56-meter-long fully automatic UV roller coating line and a photocatalytic VOC environmental protection facility. This solution offers the following advantages:

- The product qualification rate has been increased to over 99%: This line adopts a precision roller coating method, with a coating accuracy control range of ±0.02mm. It integrates functions such as surface treatment, water-based color drying, UV putty, UV primer, primer sanding, UV topcoat color correction, UV clearing or soft-touch UV excimer surface treatment, finished product protective film application, and automatic loading and unloading. It is perfectly adapted to high-end solid wood, wood veneer, and other products, and completely eliminates the impact of human error on coating quality. It can obtain uniform, consistent and defect-free high-quality primer and topcoat coatings in one pass, and automatically applies protective film to prevent coating damage during stacking or transportation.
- Output increased to 3500-5200 square meters in 8 hours: This fully automatic UV roller coating line operates at speeds of 8-12 m/min, incorporating multiple technologies such as IR leveling, hot air drying, and UV instant curing. It achieves integrated online coating and drying, eliminating the lengthy waiting times common in traditional processes, significantly boosting production efficiency and shortening the overall product delivery cycle. Even during peak order seasons, it ensures efficient and stable delivery. Furthermore, the coating line is multifunctional, flexibly adaptable to various customized orders, providing customers with a wider range of refined, high-quality, and diverse finishes.
- Significantly reduced labor costs: The entire production line requires only 2-3 workers for equipment operation and quality inspection. These workers no longer need professional spraying skills, effectively addressing recruitment difficulties and high labor costs. Compared to traditional spraying processes, roller coating eliminates paint mist and reduces paint evaporation. The coating line is also equipped with professional VOC collection devices and a photocatalytic oxidation waste gas treatment system, improving the workshop working environment from the source and completely eliminating the health hazards of the painting process for workers. Environmental compliance requirements are successfully achieved within a controllable cost range, realizing a dual upgrade in safe and green production.
